I can't complain about my Colt 1991A1. Carried it for 12 years as an LEO. Never failed me.

I'll play.
Colt Delta Elite (10mm)
Hands-down the winner. You can keep your puny .45 acp 1911's... The DE is on my short list of "guns I have to buy". My Dad had one for years and we shot it quite often. I want one in stainless.

LOL.....We can always have a shoot off between the .45 and the 10 mm for accuracy....but in a man vs. bear scenario. I don't think I would be comfortable with a handgun at all. Granted there have been bear taken down with them, and I would much rather have a side arm with me in the situation. But, If in the woods/bear country, I would prefer something a bit larger for the encounter...........like a 120mm cannon

Dan Wesson CBOB all the way.
However, jg was definitely onto something with the Delta Elite.
Springers are awesome as well. I'm planning on picking up an Ultra Compact here soon. Honestly, I don't think that Springfield offers a bad 1911. They are probably my favorite all around, entry level brand.

I have a Springfield 1911 and couldn't be happier. I was between the Kimber, Colt and Springfield. The salesman at Bud's was actually the one who steered to to the Springfield. He said he can take one gun a year FREE. He gets to pick any gun no matter the price and he picked the Springfield 1911. That sold me.
I have always been a Springfield guy anyway. I have 2 XD's, 1 XDm and there is soon to be a .45 XDm in my gun collection.

Para Ordinance P-14 .45 LDA. Most accurate and durable 1911 I have ever owned.
